“Outdoor Container Gardening”

Summer is finally here, and there is nothing better than fresh vegetables, sweet-smelling spices and colorful flowers! You can grow any of them in your very own backyard by following the simple steps below:

Find a plastic or clay container, 16 inches or larger, and layer the bottom of the container with ordinary rocks or stones.

Fill the container with potting soil about 2 inches from the top rim of the container.

Find something you would like to plant. This can be a vegetable such as a tomato, a spice such as parsley, or a flower like a marigold.

Remove the plant you have chosen from its original container, loosening the roots with your fingers. Dig the plant into the center of the container, about 2 inches deep. Mount the dirt around the plant.

Make sure your plant is in a location where it can get plenty of sunlight and water.

Remember you must water your plant regularly, especially when the weather gets hot. Container plants can get easily thirsty. If the plant grows tall you may want to support it with a stake found at any local gardening store.

Container plants are a great alternative to gardening, especially if you do not have the time or space to devote to an actual garden. Just find a sunny spot, and you can grow your very own vegetables, spices and flowers to enjoy all summer long!
