CREATING A FAMILY RECIPE COOKBOOK
Creating a recipe book with your family membersí
favorite dishes can be a great learning and leisure activity.
You can incorporate many different skills in doing this
activity, including organizing, cooking and socializing.
To help you develop your cookbook, follow these simple
steps:
|
 |
Collect
recipes from your family members. Be sure to collect their
favorite dishes, but the meals should have variety to
them. For example, get Dads chicken marsala but
also grandmas apple cobbler recipe. This way your
book will have main courses as well as desserts. You may
also add soups and appetizers to the book. This will make
your book more complete, and it can be referred to for
many different types of meals.
Once
you have collected recipes, you must decide if they will
be placed in a photo album, binder or recipe box. For
the photo album and recipe box, recipes can be written
or typed on colored index cards. If you use a binder,
the recipes can be written or typed on the paper of your
choice. You will also want to use dividers for each section
of the book, this will make referencing recipes quick
and easy. Title your book and create a cover using drawings,
family photos, etc.
If
you need additional recipes to finalize your book, you
can find them in old cookbooks, magazines or online. Family
members may have an old Betty Crocker or a more recent
Martha Stewart cookbook on a bookshelf you can refer to.
Magazines like Womens Day and Family Circle often
have recipes in every issue. There are also many websites
devoted to recipes. Often you can put in the name of a
dish under keyword or Google, and countless choices will
come up on the screen. For instance, type in tuna casserole
and you will have an abundance of recipes to choose from
to add to your personal family cookbook.
